The constant arrival of migrants and refugees to the Canary Islands, many of them from African countries and after travelling extremely dangerous routes, poses significant social and health challenges. The Canary Islands Health Service (SCS), within the framework of the COMPASS project (Interreg MAC 2021-2027), is taking on the responsibility of developing a care methodology that incorporates the migrant’s perspective from their arrival until their full social inclusion.<\/p>\n
Today’s society is ethnically diverse, culturally rich and heterogeneous. In this context, health becomes an essential factor for integration, as adequate, equitable and quality access to the healthcare system is key to the inclusion and well-being of migrants.<\/p>\n
However, various studies point to the persistence of barriers to access and quality of healthcare, stemming from linguistic, cultural and social factors, as well as the limited knowledge of social and healthcare personnel about the particularities of this population.<\/p>\n
These difficulties can lead to health inequalities and tensions in clinical practice. Given this situation, it is a priority to strengthen the cultural and clinical skills of social and healthcare professionals so that they can offer care that is sensitive to diversity, based on the principles of equity, respect and quality.<\/p>\n
The main objective of the training proposed here is to provide social and healthcare personnel with the knowledge, skills and ethical tools that will enable them to provide comprehensive and culturally competent care to migrants, contributing not only to their health, but also to social cohesion and the strengthening of the Canary Islands Health Service (SCS) itself.<\/p>\n
