Detalles del evento

As part of Museum Night, Casa África invites the public to immerse themselves in the vibrant energy, rhythm and creativity of African urban dance, led by OYOFE, an internationally renowned festival in this field.

Oyofe is an African urban dance platform dedicated to giving a voice to African and Afro-descendant communities around the world.

Through the power of dance, they reclaim their stories, celebrate their roots and share their culture with authenticity, pride and unity.

Designed as an inclusive, community-based space open to all levels, the workshop offers the chance to learn and experience these styles from their cultural origins,

highlighting movement as a form of expression, connection and collective celebration.

The workshop will culminate in an African party that will bring the festive and multicultural spirit that defines OYOFE to the courtyard of Casa África; OYOFE is a project that promotes cultural exchange and community building through dance and music.

The workshop will be led by Oulouy, an artist born in Ivory Coast and based in Barcelona, specialising in urban dance styles such as hip hop and house dance, as well as various modern African dance forms such as coupé-décalé and ndombolo, with a strong emphasis on freestyle.

Oulouy is co-director of the I love this dance media project; founder of the OYOFE International Festival; and with the piece ‘Black’ he opened the MasDanza festival in 2025 in the courtyard of Casa África.

The workshop led by Oulouy will be an Afro Fusion class, which is not a style in itself, but a tool for investigating and exploring different styles of African dance. He will introduce us to various styles of African urban dance to discover their differences, similarities and contexts. It will be a class for beginners, so he will take the time needed to explain each step. The idea is to socialise, learn and have fun.

Afterwards, we will have a discussion where we can delve deeper into what we have learnt and better understand the socio-cultural context of the different styles of African urban dance. Oulouy will answer participants’ questions.

To round off the day, we’ll have a party hosted by DJ Soffmae, a dancer and choreographer born in Cuba, who will play popular music from different African countries and the diaspora, so we can celebrate Africa Day in the best possible way. Soffmae is part of the group Sound 2 Check and, with extensive experience in this field, will be responsible for curating a set of different Afro rhythms for the workshop and the African party led by Oulouy.
