In the framework of the MICROCLI-MAC project, our partner of the University of La Laguna (ULL) and director of the Chair of Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilient Cities, Pedro Dorta Antequera, will give a lecture on “Climate threats in the Canary Islands: warnings, emergencies”.
Extreme events of climatic origin are of increasing concern. In this context, the Valencia DANA of October 2024 is the latest sign that it is necessary to be aware of the environmental reality in which today’s societies are inserted in order to be able to face the foreseeable consequences. The Canary Islands are no stranger, as they have never been, to the impact of serious episodes of flooding, marine storms, heat waves, forest fires, etc. The question we are trying to answer is what the immediate future will be like, in the current climate change, and what tools we have to manage these extraordinary situations.
