The Conference on Climate Shelters will be an event promoted by the Department of Ecological Transition and Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands within the framework of the European project PLANCLIMAC2 (1/MAC/2/2.4/0006) of the Interreg VI-D Madeira-Azores-Canary Islands (MAC) Territorial Cooperation Programme 2021-2027, aimed at promoting climate action.
The event will bring together leading speakers and experts on green urban climate shelters as a means of adapting to the increasing intensity and duration of heatwaves.
During these two days, experiences and projects in different Spanish and European regions will be analysed, as well as projects promoted in the Canary Islands that seek to integrate climate shelters into urban and territorial planning. Among the topics to be discussed are the renaturalisation of urban environments, green
infrastructures, climate resilience and the design of climate shelters.
In addition to the presentations, the conference programme includes round table discussions and a guided tour of several highlights of Arrecife. During this tour, participants will be able to identify both spaces that currently function as climate shelters and those that have the potential to become such in the future.
This conference is part of the actions of the PLANCLIMAC2 project, which seeks to strengthen regional cooperation in the face of climate change, promote adaptation and strengthen the response capacity of island territories to environmental risks.
