The company Gestión y Planeamiento Territorial y Medioambiental S.A., in collaboration with the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, is organising the Workshop on CO2 and Ocean Acidification under the PLANCLIMAC2 Project (1/MAC/2/2.4/0006) of the Territorial Cooperation Programme INTERREG VI-D Madeira-Azores-Canary Islands (MAC) 2021-2027, in the priority 2 – MAC GREEN – Ecological transition, support to the development of a green and blue economy, fight against climate change, prevention and management of risks and catastrophes.
The workshop will take place in the Marine Observatory of Climate Change in Fuencaliente de La Palma, taking advantage of its environment as a natural laboratory of acidification, generated by coastal emissions in Fuencaliente and its environmental consequences.
The aim of the Workshop on CO2 and Ocean Acidification is to explore the impact of increased atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions on ocean chemistry from a holistic perspective, taking into account the physical, chemical, biological and geological processes occurring in the ocean, as well as their interactions.
Special attention will be paid to the Canary and Macaronesian region, examining processes at different scales and considering the particularities of these oceanic areas.
