Detalles del evento

During the week of 21 to 27 April 2025, a delegation from the Technical Management Committee of the TecnoMac project (1/MAC/1/1.1/0111), of the INTERREG VI-D Madeira-Azores-Canary Islands Territorial Cooperation Programme (MAC) 2021-2027, travelled to São Tomé and Príncipe with the aim of holding preparatory meetings for the implementation of activities involving the training of professionals from local institutions in advanced methodologies for the detection of quality and safety markers in agri-food products, for water quality control, as well as in the field of epidemiological surveillance. The proper implementation of this activity requires precise knowledge of the technical capabilities of the laboratories of the institutions involved, which can only be achieved on site. This visit served to plan the activities envisaged in the project in the immediate future.

The members of the delegation that travelled to São Tomé and Príncipe were as follows:

  • Dr Cristina González, from the General Foundation of the University of La Laguna
  • Dr Jana Alonso from the Institute of Natural Products and Agrobiology of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (IPNA-CSIC)
  • Dr Iniza Araújo from the University of Cape Verde (Uni-CV)
  • Dr Emma Carmelo, project IP and lecturer at the ULL
  • Dr Inmaculada González, Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and Cooperation at the ULL

Several meetings were held during the visit:

  • Technical meetings: At a technical level, the TecnoMac team held working meetings with the project team at the Víctor Sá Machado Institute of Health Sciences at the USTP, the president of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the USTP (FCT-USTP), the National Reference Laboratory for Tuberculosis (LNRT), the Centre for Agronomic and Technological Research (CIAT), the Organic Coffee Export Cooperative (CECAFEB) and the Organic Cocoa Production and Export Cooperative (CECAB). These meetings served to learn about the technical capacities of the institutions and their training needs, with the aim of establishing priorities for action in technical training in methodologies for detecting quality and safety markers of agri-food interest, in water quality control and in the detection of human and animal pathogens. All these meetings served to ascertain the technical capabilities of the institutions and their training needs, with a view to establishing priorities for action in technical training in methodologies for detecting quality and safety markers of interest to the agri-food sector, in water quality control and in the detection of human and animal pathogens.
  • Meetings with the Rectorate of the USTP: In the field of higher education, the meetings held with the Rector, Dr Eurídice Helga Aguiar, Dr Raquel Moreno, Vice-Rector for Research, and the Vice-Rector for Teaching, Technology and Innovation, Nujoma Quaresma, were particularly important.
